JUNE 2006
6 years ago, after graduating from Diliman Preparatory School, naghahanap lang ako ng school na papasukan for college.
Wala kaming pera nuon. Nagexam ako sa UST, pumasa..un nga lang wala talaga kaming pera to enroll. Naghanap ako ng school na kaya ko maging full scholar (di naman kasi ako ganun katalino). Tapos, nakita ko ang TIP-QC (TECHNOLOGICAL INSTITUTE OF THE PHILIPPINES). Never ko pa ito narinig nung una hahaha. Engineering school din pala. Nagtake ako ng exam for Guillermo De Vega Scholarship and lucky enough, sumabit ako bilang top 41. Last passer na cover ng full scholarship, one miss scholarship dies.

Along the way.. nagaral ako dun. Hanggang sa marami na akong naririnig na negative things about the Institute. Actually hindi naman maganda dun. Madedevelop lang yung sama ng loob mo. Isa siyang school na walang pakialam sa students. Harsh guards, sigang students.. lahat na, panget turo. Until dumating ako ng 4th year. Nawala ang schoalrship ko. kasi bumaba sa 2.00 ang GEN AVE ko. Dito na nagstart humirap ang pagaaral ko.

Narealize ko nalang na hindi pala madali sa TIP. Madali makapasok. Kahit sinong bobo pwede dun pumasok e, bagsakan nga ng bobo. Pero sa Civil Engineering department, tignan natin kung makalabas ka kagad. Dun ko napansin na highly commercialized ang education dito. 1st year to 3rd year, ayan madali pa jan, pang GRADE 1 pa. Tanggap pa sila ng tanggap jan. Kasi jan sila kumukuha ng income. Pero pagdating mo ng 4th year jan na humihirap. Pero namanage ko naman na walang ibagsak na subkect hanggang 5th year 1st sem. Pero nung graduating nako, 5th year second sem. BOOM. Binagsak ako ng Professor ko sa FOUNDATION ENGINEERING. Ang sama sama ng loob ko nun. lalo na pag nagfefacebook ako at nakikita ko yung mga classmates ko na nagmarch na sa PICC. Parang nasira lahat ng pangarap ko. Pero syempre, life went on, I stood up ang just took the subject again. Kaya summer grad ako. :)

College life ended there. I had to forgive those who brought me down. Failing in a subject na alam mong marunung ka, hindi yun makakatulong sa'yo kahit motivation pa.
Yun yung gusto ko sabihin sa Department Head namin sa TIP. Na hindi lahat ng binabagsak niya namomotivate. Na hindi lahat ng binabagsak niya natutulungan niya. Oo siguro si Engr. Olidan, biangsak niya at kineCLAIM niyang yun ang dahilan kaya nag TOP 1 sa board yung tao. Pero hindi mo din masasabi yun. Kung TOP 1 talaga si Engr. Olidan, kahit ipasa pa siya o hindi, tadhana talaga niya yun. Dahil nga sa pangbabagsak niya, marami na siyang sinirang buhay, pangarap, sinayang na pera ng mga magulang na nagpapakahirap mapagaral ang kanilang anak. Makakakita ka pa nga ng 5th takers na sa subject na tulad ng Steel Design, baka ngayun may umabot na ng 7th. Anung sense nun? Nasan ang diperensya? sa studyante padin ba?

Anyway, hayaan na natin at tapos na. Hindi naman perpekto ang tao. Yun nga lang sana makawala na yung mga mahal kong classmates dun. Gusto ko nadin sila maging ENGINEER. Alam ko yung hirap na nararanasan nila.

JUNE 2011
Ayun. Tapos nako sa college, 2012 pako magmamarach sa PICC. Kalungkot.

Right away I started my review for the board exam. Sa MEGAREVIEW ako nagenroll. Unang part struggle. Imagine, lahat ng inaral mo ng 5 years aaralin mo in 5 months. Okay naman sa MEGAREVIEW. Mahirap. Kelangan mo talaga maging masipag. NagDORM na nga ako para malapit kasi ang hirap pumasok, Recto pa.

Masaya nung review. Masaya magDORM. First 2 weeks, masipag pa, nagtatop pako sa evaluations e, pero after that, next two months, inuman na kami ng magaling kong roommate na si Marky. Nagdadala pa kami ng chix dun. Ang saya kasi walang bawal. Kahit umagahin kami walang may pakialam! hahaha. PARTY PARTY! may disco ball pa kami.

Pero darating yung time once in a while na maiisip mo, na makuknsensya ka kasi hindi kayo nagaaral. Hanggang late kana sa topics. Hanggang malabo na yung panagrap mo maging Engineer.

Struggle ko din yung nilalaro ko, yung Godswar (online game). Ang hirap itigil. Halos buong oras ko puro yun ginagawa ko.

OCTOBER 2011
Hanggang dumating yung countdown. less than 100 days nalang. Nagsimula na akong mapressure. Hindi pwedeng lumipas ang isang araw na hindi ka nagaaral. Dumadating yung time na kala mo nagaaral ka pero tinititigan mo nalang yung libro sa sobrang pagod. Pero syempre may halong katamaran padin yun. Lalo na pag nagsama kami ng karoom ko na isa ding tamad. Minsan nakahiga lang kami, nagkekwentuhan. Nagatatakutan ng babagsak. Pressure.

Preboard exam, pressured na talaga kami. Akala ko hindi ako papasa pero dahil maswerte ako pumasa ako. yun nga lang wala sa top 10. Pero pwede na yun. Dami din kayang bumagsak!

After ng preboard, yan na tutukan na talaga kami. wala ng tulog. Ang masaklap pa, tumutubo 3rd mollar ko. 1 week akong hindi kumakain at nakakatulog sa sobrang sakit. Witness si Marky dun. Hindi pa ako nakapasok ng two days ng refresher course ng review. Nawalan na talaga ako ng pagasa pumasa. Nanggaling na ako ng Mary Chiles at St. Lukes Hospital pero wala silang nagawa. Nauubos na oras ko hindi pako nagaaral. Buti nalang dinala ako ng magaling kong Ama sa MEDICAL CITY. Inoperahan ako, hindi nila binunot yung mollar, pinunit lang nila yung gum muscle na impacted para hindi na masakit. so after that, YEY aral na uli! tapos... maskalap nanaman uli! niloko ako ng isang babaeng pinagkatiwalaan ko na hindi na natin papangalanan. 1 week na hindi ako nakapagaral, nung una physical pain, this time emotional pain. Try mo magaral na puro sama ng loob nasa puso niyo. Pero eventually, ako na mismo ang nagpatawad para sa ikalulwuag ng puso ng lahat. REVIEW continued.

NOVEMBER 19-20
Heto na Exam days na. Ready na ako, pencil, calcu at higit sa lahat, ROSARY hehe.
1st day, MATHEMATICS AND TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING (7AM to 12PM) ayun. sobrang excited. Wala pang time pinasa ko kagad. 1 hour and 30 minutes lang ako nagexam. Kaya ayun may mali kagad pagpasa palang. Kung nareview ko pa yun ng mabuti malamang naitama ko pa yung mali ko na yun. hay! move on na. tapos 2nd exam on the 1st day HYDRAULICS AND GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING (1PM to 5PM), this time talagang sinigurado ko na, inubos ko talaga yung oras, pagpasa ko alam ko perfect ako pero may isa palang mali :|

2nd day, STRUCRURAL AND CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING(7AM to 12PM). Eto na. WOW na. pagkakita ko palang sa mga tanung, naiiyak na ako sa hirap. sobrang hirap na nawalan na ako ng pagasa pumasa. Ginawa ko, tinaob ko muna yung papers ko. Pumikit ako for about mga 15 minutes. Nagdasal talaga ako ng taimtim. Then nagstart nako magsagot. Ganun padin mahirap padin siya. Pero this time, nawala na yung kaba kasi alam mong may katulong ka ng MALAKAS, si LORD! :) Unti unti, sinagutan ko, pag hindi ko masyado alam, skip, then babalikan ko, hanggang sa nakasagot na ako enough para pumasa. Kada sagot ko nagdadasal ako, pinagpepray ko yung iba na makuha din nila. Ayun nga, pinagpatuloy ko ang pagsasagot. Hanggang dalawang item nalang ang di ko nasasagutan, ibig sabihin dalawa nalang mali ko hahahaha! pero sinagutan ko padin. Pero di ako sure sa sagot ko sa dalwang yun. hehe.

After ko mashadean lahat, pinasa ko na. Paglabas ko ang dami ng tao. :| Nakita daw ako ng iba para daw akong lumulutang sa kawalan. Dami nahirapan e. Ako iniisip ko padin yung dalawang item na yun na di ko sigruado. :)) Pero silent lang, dapat kasi hindi natin unahan ng yabang kasi marami pwedeng mangyari.

Expected ko na nung una na pasok ako sa top 3. Pero hindi ako naninigurado dahil maraming pwedeng mangyari. Paguwi ko ng bahay, sinabi ko kagad sa kuya ko na top 1 na ako. kasi nga expected ko mga 3 lang mali ko. Eh kinompare ko lang sa mali ng mga top 3 nung mga nakaraang board exam. Pero hindi padin ako naninigurado, pinapalakas ko lang luob ko at pinapakita ko na may faith ako.

NOVEMBER 23, 2011
Until dumating yung release ng result, umalis ako ng bahay, kasama ko ang isang reviewmate, nagsimba kami, at nagstay sa dorm. Pinatay namin ang phones namin dahil natatakot kami sa result. Eh unconsciously naopen ko phone ko, tapos yun na may mga texts na "CONGRATS!" ang dami, tapos mamayamaya "CONRGATS ENGR, di ka lang ENGR TOPNOTCHER PA" tapos nalaman ko nag top 8 ako. Syempre masayang masaya ako, lalo na nung pumasa din yung kasama ko. Masaya ako dahil pasok ako sa top 10. Tapos inisip ko bakit 8 lang pero satisfied na ako ha, inisip ko lang. Tapos nalaman ko nga na 95.25 yung average ko as expected, grade na papasok nga sa top 3 usually, pero sorry ako dahil kasabay ko pala magexam yung magagaling ng Catanduanes, ang gagaling tlga hahaha! 78.05 ang grade ng top 1. san kapa hahaha. Siguro yun talaga ang nakalaan para sa akin. Tsaka hindi din naman ako ganun naging masipag nung review, dami kong katamaran at hindi ako nakakatapos ng books gaya ng ibang nakakaSAMPU, kaya mas deserve ng iba yung higher place, at isa pa TOP 8 yun. Pagpasa palang sa exam ng CIVIL ENGINEERING mahirap na, CIVIL ENGINEERING BOARD EXAM yun. Alam naman natin gaano kahirap yan. :) Yun lang.

haay. finally it's over. we all just took our pre-board this day.

The pre-board can be best described as a harder version of the actual board exam..

Compared to the actual board which runs for 2 days, our pre board only takes a day, 8:30 am to 5:oo pm, the rest definitions are the same if I'm not mistaken.

Our pre-board exam was composed of three major divisions;MATHEMATICS and SURVEYNG, HYDRAULICS and GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING, STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING. These major divisions still have sub categories..

I have here some questions that were asked..

26. An old dilapidated road having a curve portion is to be improved to accomodate a design speed of 90KPH. Super elevation is 0.08 and skid rsistance is 0.1. Compute degree of curve.

10. If A-120 deg, B-135, deg c - 30 deg, FIND C.

these were some of the questions in mathematics and surveying..

In Hydraulics and Geotech - Constant head test, plasticity index, pressurized tank with tube outlet..well I could have gotten a high score here if there were enough time to study.

The last part, which was the structural engineering involved topics from strength of materials to designs..

well.. I gave my best. It is up to ABB (Engr. Allan B. Benogsudan) if he'll let me pass. As far as we know, last batch's graduates were only four out of 150+... GOOD LUCK.

Factors Causing Delay In Construction Projects

A Case Study Of Commercial Construction Project In Ho Chi Minh City

When Vietnam got the WTO membership in July, 2006, it has gained greater opportunities than ever before for investment from international company and global integration, FDI has continued to rise since 1997 and it increased sharply in 2008. The development of economic always brings about the development of construction industry. In fact, the rate of construction project is increasing quickly in recent years. So, how to manage them effectively and efficiently is not only the owner’s essential requirement but also the responsibility of construction industry, this demands special knowledge and experience from project managers. However, according to recent survey, a numbers of commercial building which had the delay problems are very significant.

In commercial construction building, factors of time and quality are prioritized. Investors would have significant financial damage if their project had problems on quality and delays. The time, cost, quality and scopes of work are core factors contributing to a project success. Managing well these factors is project manager’s top priority task. There are many documents and studies of project management which have been conducted, so project managers have a lot of chances to access huge knowledge and experiences and apply them to their job. However, depending on the type of construction works, the actual circumstances and the knowledge and experiences are utilized differently. Mr. Phan Hong Hoan made a study which main purposes were to: (1) develop framework to investigate delay problems affecting on schedule in commercial building construction; (2) investigate the delay problems so that the critical delay problems can be identified; (3) propose solutions to prevent the critical delay problems from occurring during construction execution stage.

Conclusions

Delay problem is the thorny question in construction industry not only in Viet Nam but also all over the world. The cause of delay in construction stage arises from countless factors. The problem cannot be solved thoroughly, if these factors are not identified and restricted or eliminated. However, the restriction of time and finance doesn’t allow project manager to solve all influencing factors, so it is necessary to identify the critical factors.

This study developed the framework which is very practical to find out the critical factors causing the serious delay problems in construction building stage. The impact level of these factors on construction duration can be different from this project to another project, but the method to evaluate them is similar. So this approach can be applied to almost construction building.

Case study is analyzed to illustrate the systematic method to investigate and identify the delay problems and their causes in SECC, a project concerned with international contractors, consultant.

The investigation result of delay problems in SECC showed that there were many factors leading to the delay of the SECC. The severities of these elements are arranged in order of priority. Below is the table of top critical factors:

Basically, the results of the investigation showed that most fundamental source of the top critical factors was derived from the following basic elements:

- The Government’s legal regulation in importing has been inefficient and not clear.

- PM in SECC has shortcomings and weaknesses especially in risk evaluation or project planning and human management.

- Contractor’s construction organization is not really efficient and effective.

- The shortage of engineers and workers having experience and highly professional, is contractors’ inextricable questions, especially the contractors for the project which has scale and high technology specification such as SECC.

- Legal regulation in construction industry is not really strict, so the collusion among parties likely to be existent, it makes contractor collection process unfair. So some contractors having financial competence were chosen.

- Collaboration between investors and designers in the design phase plays an important role in reducing the design changes during construction.

Recommendation for project management improvement

Based on the conclusion above, human factors is one of the original delay problems. There are many potential solutions for fore-mentioned problems; however, the really effective solution depends significantly on specific situations of each construction building. The following texts relies on individual perception, these propositions need to be analyzed and studied deeper in another research or need to be verified before these assumptions become official statements.

- Build an ideology for project manager, engineers, architects etc so that they can recognize delay problems which will lead to large losses as well as the project completion on time. Simultaneously, top management should establish a fair reward and punishment policy which has to be strictly applied.

- Wage policy should meet the minimum standard of living. This will reduce the pressure of economic and help managers focus on their work fully and integrally.

- It is necessary to build up the relationship between benefits from the project
completed on schedule and the benefits of project manager and participants. This will be a motivation for them to have positive outlook to work actively.

- Each individual responsibilities and rights must be clearly defined; this will limit the avoidance of responsibility, the dodge of work and bureaucracy to a minimum.

- The working conditions should be improved gradually aiming at building proper working atmosphere; this will help work done more effectively.

- The human resource training towards professionalism in the management and professional ethic improvement need to be set out and prioritized.

- The procedures of legal regulation in imports and some other areas have remained very limited and inadequate. To be the member of WTO is a challenge which forces Viet Nam to improve this legal procedure. This legal process not only in import-export but also in the other fields must be clear and transparent. This will help project planners to have the basis to plan for their projects accurately. If this procedure is not improved soon, Viet Nam will be left behind, compared to other countries in the region and we, ourselves, will be faced with great damages.

- Consultant’s managerial skill is weak; it is not be able to satisfy the size and the demand of project. It is not only necessary to promote professionalism in the work of quantity estimates and design, but also very strict in choosing the consultant, designer and the basic of collecting consultant must rely on their capacity. Simultaneously, the responsibility must be assigned to definite individual.

- Project management has been a new concept in construction section in Viet Nam. So almost project managers were not professionally educated, instead engineers or architects who used to work many years in construction field are usually assigned as a project manager.

- The project management training should be paid more attention in the future. It should be the main goal in Construction University. It is not only reduces delay problem but also enhances the success probability of construction project. Not only project manager must be educated professionally, but also their capacity has to comply with the assigned duty.

- The collusion between supervisor, stakeholder and contractor can be existent. This intricate question not only happens in Viet Nam but also in developing countries. To restrict this problem to a minimum, the wage policy should satisfy actual living standard, and award and punish policy should be impartial.

Abstract

In construction industry, a project is known to be successful when it meets three fundamental criteria such as finishing on time within the budget, the prescribed quality requirements such as satisfying customer’s demand and adapt safety in operation stage. Unfortunately, many commercial construction projects in Ho Chi Minh City have problems of project management leading to their delay. Investigating these problems has become project manager’s indispensable demand.

In general, the problems involved with project delays are solvable. In making effort to solve these problems, the critical factors influencing negatively on construction duration need to be discovered. Hence, it is very important to establish a systematical approach that will be used as a tool for the investigation.

This report will assess and analyze key factors causing the delay problems in construction project in Ho Chi Minh city. The qualitative method, basically is based on the principle of assessing the risk level of factors impacting negatively on the progress of the project, and it is conducted to fulfill the objective of the study. Case study is brought out to discus about delay problems in the Exhibition and convention Center Project (SECC).

The Professional Regulation Commission has released the November 2010 Civil Engineer board exam results as PRC announced that 2,040 out of 5,028 passed the Civil Engineer Licensure Examination given by the Board of Civil Engineering in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi and Tacloban this November 2010.

Hiiii! It has been two months since I last shared things about me.

I got my grades this morning and I'm loath to admit that most of my classmates failed, then I passed :)) hahaha. JOKE! Of course I feel very charmed and blessed and bibo haha.. but it is just not very happy this time. I really love my friends and it's hard and painful to see them chap-fallen, trying to realize their failures. :(

anyway..that's life. We'll just do better next time. :)

After getting my grades, I went to Issetan Cubao and bought myself a new pair of gloves and a black sando. :D My prize for having good grades!

Effective Study skills are about more than understanding
Effective study skills must be practiced in order for you to improve. It is not enough to simply "think about" studying; you have to actually do it, and in the process use information from what you do to get better. This is the central idea of this page. All that follows depends on this single concept. There is a saying that goes like this: "Practice doesn't make perfect; perfect practice makes perfect." If you want to be an achiever, take this saying to heart.
The value of a schedule
Before you even begin to think about the process of studying, you must develop a schedule. If you don't have a schedule or plan for studying, then you will not have any way of allocating your valuable time when the unexpected comes up. A good, well thought out schedule can be a lifesaver. It's up to you to learn how develop a schedule that meets your needs, revise it if necessary, and most important, follow it.
A schedule saves time
All schedules should be made with the idea that they can be revised. A good schedule keeps you from wandering off course. A good schedule, if properly managed, assigns time where time is needed, but you've got to want to do it!
Making every hour count
A schedule should take into account every class, laboratory, lecture, social event, and other work in which you engage. There are givens such as classes and so on that have to be incorporated. You must focus on the other "free time" available and how you will use it. Make a weekly schedule and block off the 24 hour day in one hour increments. Indicate times for classes, labs, lectures, social, and work time. Also block off a period for sleeping each day. With what is left over, plan time for study. This gives you a rough road map of the time available. Of course, you can revise your schedule as circumstances warrant.
When to study
The problem of when to study is critical. A good rule of thumb is that studying should be carried out only when you are rested, alert, and have planned for it. Last minute studying just before a class is usually a waste of time.
Studying for lecture courses
If your study period is before the lecture class, be sure you have read all the assignments and made notes on what you don't understand. If the study period is after the lecture class, review the notes you took during class while the information is still fresh.
Studying for recitation courses
For classes that require recitation, such as foreign language, be sure to schedule a study period just before the class. Use the time to practice. Sometimes, practice with others can help sharpen your skills in a before-class study period.
Making and revising a schedule
Don't be afraid to revise your schedule. Schedules are really plans for how you intend to use your time. If your schedule doesn't work, revise it. You must understand that your schedule is to help you develop good study habits. Once you have developed them, schedule building becomes easier.

It feels good to stay this late after a long week of sickening exams!

The tests were not that too difficult, I actually got a perfect score in HYDRAULICS :) want evidence?

maybe, it really is the easiest subject in civil engineering. We simply have to memorize one formula; Bernoulli's equation, and the rest can just be derived from it.

I was also able to make myself belong to THE SLIMMERS GYM hahaha:

being a member is better than working out in session, it forces me to wake up as early as 7:am everyday for a sure maximization of time. I just hope to see my body change within that two weeks. :)

This is really an exhausting week, we have made a lot of sleepless review to ensure good scores..and I think most of us did not fail to do so.

I've been doing good since last week. Should I ask God if this is my prize for being a better boy? anyway, I want to thank Him for the good luck. I pray that He would never lose His patience specially when I'm under my evil side :

Trees That Wood

Once there were three trees on a hill in the woods. They were discussing their hopes and dreams when the first tree said, "Someday I hope to be a treasure chest. I could be filled with gold, silver and precious gems. I could be decorated with intricate carving and everyone would see the beauty."

Then the second tree said, "Someday I will be a mighty ship. I will take kings and queens across the waters and sail to the corners of the world. Everyone will feel safe in me because of the strength of my hull."

Finally the third tree said, "I want to grow to be the tallest and straightest tree in the forest. People will see me on top of the hill and look up to my branches, and think of the heavens and God and how close to them I am reaching. I will be the greatest tree of all time and people will always remember me."

After a few years of praying that their dreams would come true, a group of woodsmen came upon the trees. When one came to the first tree he said, "This looks like a strong tree, I think I should be able to sell the wood to a carpenter" ... and he began cutting it down. The tree was happy, because he knew that the carpenter would make him into a treasure chest.
At the second tree a woodsman said, "This looks like a strong tree, I should be able to sell it to the shipyard." The second tree was happy because he knew he was on his way to becoming a mighty ship.

When the woodsmen came upon the third tree, the tree was frightened because he knew that if they cut him down his dreams would not come true. One of the woodsmen said, "I don't need anything special from my tree so I'll take this one", and he cut it down.

When the first tree arrived at the carpenters, he was made into a feed box for animals. He was then placed in a barn and filled with hay. This was not at all what he had prayed for. The second tree was cut and made into a small fishing boat. His dreams of being a mighty ship and carrying kings had come to an end. The third tree was cut into large pieces and left alone in the dark. The years went by, and the trees forgot about their dreams.

Then one day, a man and woman came to the barn. She gave birth and they placed the baby in the hay in the feed box that was made from the first tree. The man wished that he could have made a crib for the baby, but this manger would have to do. The tree could feel the importance of this event and knew that it had held the greatest treasure of all time. Years later, a group of men got in the fishing boat made from the second tree. One of them was tired and went to sleep. While they were out on the water, a great storm arose and the tree didn't think it was strong enough to keep the men safe. The men woke the sleeping man, and he stood and said "Peace" and the storm stopped. At this time, the tree knew that it had carried the King of Kings in its boat.

Finally, someone came and got the third tree. It was carried through the streets as the people mocked the man who was carrying it. When they came to a stop, the man was nailed to the tree and raised in the air to die at the top of a hill. When Sunday came, the tree came to realize that it was strong enough to stand at the top of the hill and be as close to God as was possible, because Jesus had been crucified on it.

The moral of this story is that when things don't seem to be going your way, always know that God has a plan for you. If you place your trust in Him, He will give you great gifts. Each of the trees got what they wanted, just not in the way they had imagined. We don't always know what God's plans are for us. We just know that His ways are not our ways, but His ways are always best.

Hi guys! wasap! haha. I just want to share something that infrequently occurs in my teenage life, it happened just this week:

I was rushing my walk going to the CE faculty room when I saw this marriage ceremony that was being performed by a fake priest and real couples. haha. I can't stop myself from watching and getting envious. I always asked for this kind of moment my entire life but sadly, it never came.. I really wish we did.. Anyway! haha. We are given so much free time this week, we're able to have time for recreational things like laughing and chatting. I tell you, It's a rarity for us to have time for these things.. we're always trained to compute and compute. haha. I'm sure next week hell days will resume.

The most recent and destructive earthquake in Haiti has evidently killed many people (and animals also hahaha!).. until now, its effects are still being felt worldwide. We can even see a jam-packed of Haiti-related fund raising projects being campaigned on our news feeds in facebook.. What seemed to attract me was Farmville's way of gathering funds, though I contributed nothing, I still hope that they did not get any part or percentage from it..hmp. I'm just being suspicious for the sake of the victims.

Anyway.. I just want to share the relation of the havoc to my course, BS Civil Engineering.

This earthquake has a destructive power that can be obviously seen by observing the fate of Haiti's presidential palace. With its spaciousness and sparkling white facade, it has already withstood civil wars, military coups, and decades' worth of hurricanes. But in the hours after the earthquake, its collapse was cited as a proof of the severity of the crisis at hand. In the days since, it has come to symbolize something worse: Haiti's government on the verge of a complete meltdown in a country too poor to build even its most central structures properly.

But was it mainly the government's fault?

In our Earthquake Engineering subject, we were given a project by our professor Engr. Edison Dizon (we had to have an overnight of computation at Licel's crib.. It took us almost two weeks to finish the 1st half of the design..) The project is to be made by four students in every group. We were all tasked to design a 6-storey building that should pass the criteria for seismic design.. basically, the building should withstand a high-magnitude earthquake.

As far as I have studied, simply, when an earthquake hits, a building that has sacrificed structural support for the sake of artistry is bound to collapse. It's what engineers call the "soft-story effect".

There have been lots of Civil Engineering students who get fond of teasing Architecture students by means of design knowledge. In the case of the Haiti's Presidential Palace, it is fairly seen that Engineering principles in designing really have a higher importance in construction. Leading us to
a concrete proof that Archi students don't get teased without any basis :) wooh! cheers for the CE DEPARTMENT!! haha.

Finally, another problem is the rampant corruption in Haiti's construction industry. They simply don't enforce any building codes. What do they have? Architectural code? bwahaha.

Anyway, I just don't want to tackle more and tease further the Architecture. My bottom point is, if there's something I really learned from reading articles about Earthquake Engineering, it would be:

"It's a good rule of thumb that earthquakes don't kill people, collapsed buildings do"

That's why we've got Engineers here who have the ability to drastically minimize structural collapse, even in poor regions like Haiti and Philippines, even with severe earthquakes like this. haha!

FINALLY! I got my SET of CONCRETE WEIGHTS made yesterday. Weights made of PVC PIPES with concrete. hahaha.

I just thought that I'd fail my plan of gaining bulky muscles again thats why seeing how it was made is actually something stirring. Thanks to kuya Banong, (EEI's mason worker) for fabricating these weights for me. I hope he wouldn't get fired for stealing cement from EEI CORPORATION! haha.

Having a hunk body is just everyone's dream, except for girls of course. haha. Just like them, I have been sluggishly striving to get my body hunkier. Unfortunately, my time does not get along with me, or maybe I am just too lazy to work it out haha. But now that I have my BARBELLS and DUMBBELLS, I promise you guys..this will be the start of my hunk life, I can now imagine my self being a sexually attractive man with a well-developed physique. OH YEAH!

I can't wait to see my body after two weeks:

The first days of this semester was genuinely the sign of a bigger stone to be stepped on in my pursuit of a successful engineering career. I used to have morning schedules in my previous semesters that forced me to get regular sleeping time but as we eventually overcome each subjects in the curriculum, we are forced to adjust ourselves to later subject schedules.

Before, I used to wake up earlier than the sun, I used to go and ride with my father's car at the same time every morning. I could always take snippets of random people's emotions rushing in the morning. I really miss these things. Even in times when I was feeling cold and chilly but had to splash my body with water just to freshen my whole day in school. I miss it. I just miss the fresh sun.. everything :)

Now, I have adjusted my morning to 12:00 PM and everything turned into a dull bright and hot afternoon.

What I actually miss the most is the chance to listen to "RX 93.1's Chico and Delamar's Top Ten Morning Rush".. A weekday morning radio show of Monster Radio RX 93.1 and is hosted by Chico Garcia and Delamar. Its main feature is the Top Ten. The DJs would pick a topic for the day and announce it at the start of the show. DJs would choose from topics suggested by listeners or occasionally come up with their own topic. This radio show never failed to entertain me.

I was once able to get my entry to one of their topics, the time when I still had an OPERA MINI installed in my cellphone. I also had the chance to be greeted on air.. There was this time while I was with my sister and my father inside the car (on our way to school), I used my phone to ask chico and del to greet them. They were surprised to hear their names on the radio..haha. I really loved my mornings because of them.

Tired? You're not alone. About 20 percent of Americans get fewer than six hours of shut-eye nightly, and a growing number have to rely on sleep aids to fall asleep or stay that way, according to the National Sleep Foundation. Is getting more (and better) sleep possible without the help of drugs? To find out, we asked three Woman's Day staffers to share their nighttime troubles with the experts. Here's what they learned.

Problem #1: "I wake up in the middle of the night and can't fall back to sleep." -Marilu Lopez, group creative director

Marilu wakes up almost every night between 3:30 and 4 a.m. and is unable to fall back to sleep. To pass the time and try to make herself sleepy again, she reads The New York Times on her BlackBerry. She eventually falls back to sleep but then wakes up early in the morning and feels exhausted all day.

Advice: Step one is to break the BlackBerry habit, says Joyce Walsleben, RN, PhD, diplomate of the American Board of Sleep Medicine and coauthor of A Woman's Guide to Sleep. The problem is twofold: Not only is reading news articles too stimulating, but the light from the BlackBerry itself can get in the way of the production of hormones that are essential for sleep.

Dr. Walsleben's top tips:

Ban the BlackBerry from the bedroom. Also cover (or remove) clocks so that you're not disturbed by the light from them or tempted to stare at the numbers.
Stay in bed. If you wake up, keep your eyes closed and practice relaxation exercises that will hopefully lull you back to sleep. One to try: Picture yourself outdoors on a beautiful day with a jar of soap and a wand. Imagine that you're slowly blowing bubbles, and follow each one until it's out of sight. Keep blowing bubbles until there's no more soap in the jar.
Relax during the day, too. Take at least three minutes to practice the bubble exercise (or another relaxation technique, such as deep breathing) so that you're not overwhelmed by the worries of the day as soon as your head hits the pillow.

Did it work? "The bubble imagery didn't work for me--I found the concept more annoying than relaxing," says Marilu. "But I have fallen back to sleep a few times by just staying in bed and telling myself, ‘Do not open your eyes. Do not turn on the BlackBerry.'"

Problem #2: "I only get four to five hours of sleep a night." -Abigail L. Cuffey, assistant health editor

Abby's friends call her a vampire because she's such a night owl. She tends to get a second wind around 11:30 p.m. and ends up staying awake until at least 2 a.m. But she also wakes up early in the morning, so the bottom line is she's not getting very much rest. She relies on lots of caffeine to keep her going through the day. On the weekends Abby stays up even later but sleeps in later as well.

Advice: Too much caffeine and inconsistencies between Abby's workweek and weekend sleep schedules are preventing her from getting enough rest, says Michael J. Breus, PhD, a clinical psychologist and board-certified sleep specialist. If she's serious about improving her sleep habits, she needs to ease off the caffeine and stick to a regular schedule.

Dr. Breus' top tips:

Start "caffeine fading." There's no need to abandon coffee entirely--plus, going cold turkey can cause bad headaches. A better idea is to drink most of your caffeinated beverages early in the morning and taper off as the day goes on. If you're currently used to five or six cups of coffee a day, try having one or two cups of drip coffee in the morning, a latte (which has a higher milk-to-coffee ratio) or half-caf coffee midday, and a tea or cola in the afternoon if you're still craving caffeine. But after 4 p.m., no more caffeine!
Set your alarm clock or cell phone to go off 30 minutes before bedtime as a reminder to stop what you're doing and get ready for bed.
Take a hot bath or shower right before bed. This should make you sleepy because your temperature will rise and then dip--and body temperature naturally drops when you get sleepy.
Go to bed and wake up at approximately the same time on weekdays and weekends. (A shift of about an hour is OK.)

Did it work? "The advice was good but hard to stick to because life--the holidays, my birthday, etc.--got in the way," says Abby. "But when I did follow it, it worked really well, especially the hot shower at night. Whenever I took one I felt almost tranquilized once I crawled into bed."

Problem #3: "I have night sweats--but I'm only in my 20s!" -Ayn-Monique Klahre, associate home design editor

During the workweek, Ayn-Monique usually goes to bed around 10:30 p.m., but her husband often reads in the bedroom, so the light disturbs her about 30 minutes later. Once she's awakened, she tosses and turns but eventually falls back to sleep--only to be awakened around 3:30 a.m. feeling cold but scrunched into a little ball and sweating. She's exhausted when her alarm goes off in the morning and often hits the snooze button repeatedly. On the weekends she tends to stay out much later and sleeps soundly once she's finally in bed.

Advice: A medical issue could be responsible for Ayn-Monique's sleep troubles, but Dr. Walsleben suspects that her sleep cycle is simply out of whack because she goes to bed so much later on the weekends than she does during the week and because she's going to bed during the week while her husband is still reading.

Dr. Walsleben's top tips:

Normalize your weekday and weekend sleep routines as much as possible. That might mean going to bed slightly later during the week than you are now, as well as turning in a bit earlier on Friday and Saturday. The goal is to bridge the gap.
Embrace the darkness. Even if you fall asleep with the light on, it probably won't be quality sleep--and it's all too easy to be woken up. If your husband insists on reading in the bedroom after your bedtime, ask him to use a book light or wear an eye mask yourself.
Talk to your doctor. If you practice these lifestyle changes for a few weeks and you're not sleeping any better--and still waking up sweating--see your primary care doctor to make sure an unknown medical problem isn't to blame.

Did it work? "Staying up a little later during the week helped me sleep more soundly, and I've used an eye mask when my husband is reading in bed," says Ayn-Monique. "But I still woke up sweaty on occasion, so I'm not sure this issue has been fully addressed. I'll mention it to my doctor at my next physical just to make sure nothing else is going on."

It was almost 4:00 am when I felt my body's need for hibernation. I slept until 9:00 am but stayed on bed until my sister hurriedly shouted my name "KOYA AGGIIIIE!! THE LEGEEENNND NAA GIISSIINGG KAANAA!" ..

I actualy hate it when someone brawls at me specially in the morning. Except every Saturdays and Sundays. These are the days when being disturbed is allowed by my nerves :p haha. The Legend is worth waking up early for me. :)

The Legend is a koreanovela of the life of the 19th king of Goguryeo, Hwanwoong, who was sent from the heavens to make the world a better place. He falls in love with Saeoh and gives her the joojak necklace; however, Kajin becomes jealous since Saeoh has given birth to Hwanwoong's son. She takes the baby and throws him off a cliff. Saeoh, thinking that her son had died, is overcome with grief and turns into the black joojak to destroy the world. Hwanwoong is the only one who could stop her. Afterwards, Hwanwoong returns to the Heavens and prophecizes that 2000 years later, the true Joo Shin king will come to Earth. With the help of the four gods, he will rebuild Joo Shin.

The story's plot would not seem so appreciable without actually watching it.

My favorite characters:

King Dam Deok - For me, I can compare him to the Christian's Jesus Christ. Though Jesus was HOLY in His time, I like how King Dam Deok decided for the goodness of the majority. His calmness out of the raging war inspired me to imitate it.. He's one of the reasons why I loved watching the drama series, I learn to mold myself into a person who executes kindness and goodness even in times of crisis and hardship.

Sujini - she is a lady in the story who always managed to have a drinking spree. Alcohol is what makes her happy until she realized that she's in love with the king. I find this girl very attractive.. I really wish to find a girl exactly like her here in the Philippines.. A girl who always laugh but turns out her beauty when caught serious.. someday, I'll find Sujini! :p

Cheoro - He was the Duke of Gwanming. He used to have a dragon skin until King Dam Deok set him free from the curse. I like his silience. I find his acting skills excellent because I once experienced acting in our Ethics class. We were not allowed to use sounds, and that was pretty hard for us.

Jumuchi - This strong man really shows vandelness among the characters in the movie. He always wants to fight.. what so funny about him is, out of his marvelous type as a fighter, he is a dork. He lacks the courage to express his feelings to the girl he loves so much. His sense of humor also adds life in the story.

This Korean Drama can be watched in QTV 11.. hope you guys would like it too :p

Insomnia

Hi friends! At long last the week is over and I can have all the time curing my insomnia. By just looking at my face, you can obviously notice my sleepless nights. This insomnia actually made the glow of my face become dim.. Before, I used to easily get quality and regular sleeps until I got seperated from my last ex-girlfriend, soon afterwards, I started sleeping late...

Regrets and what ifs bother me a lot, though I have been trying to get these off from my mind, I still end up miserably puzzled EVERY NIGHT and EVERYTIME I WAKE UP.

Usually, my remedy is to meditate seriously and think about nothing.. but honestly it doesn't help, I just end up stressed out and pressured because of concentrating and trying so hard not to think.. worse is, It usually takes 3 hours before I realize it..

A while ago I opened my facebook and found my inbox loaded with a new message, I then clicked the link. I felt really excited upon seeing the name of the sender; Pau Paguia. I immediately opened her message:

"HOY! May FB ka na pala. Di ka manlang mag-invite. Di na tayo friends?"

as soon as I read it, it almost extracted the tears left inside my eyes.. I felt the big presence of melancholy over the night. IT ACTUALLY STUNNED ME with pain. and there, turned my emo side on.

I don't know how I should understand its hidden message. I'm still trying to figure out how she was while making this, did she miss me or what.. but the truth is, my heart would only accept nothing but the thought that she misses me.

I don't even know what to reply. or for the mean time, I'll just ask God what to do..
Only one thing's certain here, surely, that message will help my insomnia in killing me.
anyway, I'm just keeping my moves on track..to minimize regrets. :p

clever dude vs clever virus

Psecurity.exe - beware!

I'm currently removing a virus from my father's PC named Psecurity. will update you if successfully removed! but as of now, I will just temporarily wave goodbye!

- I could have posted this blog entry above earlier but my computer system just totally crashed.

I was in my Hydraulics class when my sister texted me that she couldn't properly use my father's laptop because its antivirus system had been contionuously madly alerting the desktop and it could not be stopped. My sister is just ten and she understandably doesn't have any knowledge about PC aside from facebook and farmville. :p So right after my class, I went home immediately, after landing our sala, I removed my shoes, threw my whiffy socks away, removed my pants and polo, set myself ready with my green boxer shorts and finally got three polvorons from the fridge. So there, all set.

I opened my father's laptop near our neighbor's wifi so I could connect to the interenet. When the desktop had started, the antivirus system poped-out and it said something like "THE ANTIVIRUS IS OFF, YOU NEED TO PURCHASE LICENSE BLA BLA" . After I read its threatening lines, I already thought that the pop-out thing was a virus that tries to disable your real anti virus system and will eventually force you to purchase their updates and all that.

THE VIRUS:

At first, I was not so bothered because I thought it could be easily terminated using the task manager, ends its process and presto.. I tried so, but unfortunately, I could not open the task manager! then I found out that my desktop was disabled too, as well as the system registry and I was not even allowed to open nor install any program that could terminate the virus. This got me really really worried. What left working was the Internet Explorer (thanks to the neighbor's wifi), I automatically got connected to the interenet. I then googled how to remove the virus, so bad, almost all results led me to installing an antispyware and worse, they would instruct you to open the task manager and end the virus processor..nah! all of these were not allowed by that clever virus.

My last resort was to restart the laptop. I restarted it..and I really don't know where and how I've gotten the idea of running the task manager knowing that It was disabled. I ran the TASK MANAGER and unexpectedly, it ran! It ran before the VIRUS had loaded. So I immediately end the VIRUS PROCESS and finally it stopped from destroying the system... I cleaned all of its dirt and remains, the folders, system registry files, hidden files and etc., thanks GOD i got it fixed before getting caught by the owner, my DAD! :))

HAHA. I am such a clever boy. (with some sort of luck) :))

Anyway thanks guys for your random solutions, it did not help me anything. :p

school's exciting with a new bag :)

Today's Monday! We are dismissed at 6:30 pm every monday.. so.. while listening to Engr. Nap discussing some topics in Structural Theory 2, I was already thinking of something to do after the class.. I DEEPLY THIIIIIINNNNKKKK...and TADAN! I've come with a thought of buying a NEW BAG!

My two old bags, the JANSPORT BACKPACK and the CONVERSE MAILMAN BAG were already surrendering with zippers that could not be zipped. I really had to have a new one. After class, after eating at Anonas Ministop Squid Balls, I rode a jeep going to Cubao to canvass the bag. special thanks to my companions: Paul Baudin and Jason Angel Bunag. They were great in choosing the ugliest bag. :p

This is my JANSPORT bag. This was very expensive 3 years ago, but I managed to have one for only P300.00! hahaha! My desperate-for-money classmate sold it to me. At that time, I really dreamed of getting a Jansport Bag because it was really a trend. But it seemed to be so trendy to the point that EMO PEOPLE also used it. Eew! Anyway, the zippers of this bag are already disabled and rusty but I will still keep this in my cabinet. I'll let Mr.Quicky fix this someday.

This one is my CONVERSE BAG. The truth is, this bag has a very high sentimental value. It was given by Pauline Paguia, that's why I still use it out of its dying state. :)

annnnd TADAN!!

MY NEW BAG. I had P1200.00 in my wallet but I just wanted to spend a maximum of 500 pesos for a bag. I bought this from BENCH! haha. Please don't buy this one because I don't want to see someone using this! hahaha!

There are things on earth that we cannot stop from getting worn out. Bags, socks, shoes, clothes..they all get old and weary and I think, RELATIONSHIPS also do.
but that does not mean a need to throw.
If things still seemed repairable, GET THEM REPAIRED!

Right after I woke up this afternoon, something was really struggling in me, thoughts that I hate thinking of. God's way of bothering me, I must say, He's way of telling me to stop this procrastination.

Actually, I'm still on track of my plans but I know how I'm taking too long. That's the thing that actually bothers me.. that while keeping my feet on this, what I believe the right track, she's getting farther and farther.
The thought of facing her frightens me : no..not all thoughts of her, maybe I'm just afraid of the thought of being totally rejected..
My faith chiefly is my reason of holding on.. but I can't still get out of this worried state. Uncertain things..
HEY! hey. : tomorrow's 18.. I just wish she could see my state. or maybe she enjoys her life now.

This last hour of the day was rushingly saved by the best. It rarely happens that a friend would text me and ask if he/she can call me.. though I already knew that she was just in need of relief, I still felt emotionally affected by the thought of being considered as a person that she can talk to in times of blue.. another good thing was the moment i relieved her from pain, it brought smile to the both of us and gave our friendship another bond. That doesn't end there..I will still pray for her before getting to sleep. :) see..I'm such a good friend hehe.

DIFFERENTIAL EQUATION- We just took the exam this early morning.10 items, a so brain-eating test. multiple choice, wrong pick means a deduction of 2 points from your score. no answer no score. so you must be a hundred percent sure when you answer or else, minus 2!

MECHANICS- wow. met-tsa-niks. 5 units. so 6+5=65! wahaha. I'm such a great MATHer. ang cute ng score ko mega65! 50 passed. I'm not satisfied. (review my previous entry.)

SURVEYING- I only got 85, fine.

SPEECH- 94! hehehe.

and LAST but surely the BEST.

AN UNEXPECTED FINISH. The concert started almost immediately at 8:30 p.m. against the ticket timeat 8 p.m.,
a rarity in any local event. With no front act and no introductionat all save for the announcement of their band, the Eheads opened the first setwith "Alapaap" finished by fireworks to the delight of the over 60,000 audience.

Marcus later introduced as Lally, Ely's sister.Marcus announced that Lally will read a letter and hope the audience understands. It read: "Thank you for supporting the reunion concert of Eraserheads. We,however, regret to inform you that due to my brother's poor health, the emotionaland physical stress that he's been experiencing, we apologize for cutting the concert short. My brother Ely had to be rushed to the hospital for medical attention. Again, we apologize and thank you all for coming here tonight."Next to speak was the concert producer who confirmed that Ely was immediately rushed to the hospital during the break and asking for prayers and understanding from the audience.There was no commotion, no shouting, and no hissing from the audience as they all quietly and sadly left the venue after the announcement.Ely is now in Makati Medical Center. It was earlier thought that he would undergo a bypass operation. But an announcement said that no such thing happened; Ely just experienced stress and fatigue.No announcement was made whether an Eraserheads reunion concert will happen again.

after all! reviews i made, sleepless nights i had, and all and all. still i got the test imperfectly.HOLY SHIT. yah yah. it's the mechanics' midterm test. depressing. i was expecting all things will go smoothly. nothing but burnout.. errr. all topics, all case, all problems that can be fond in our textbook, I answered it all, and there it went. things still ended down. calculator error. LACKED LUCK I GUESS! I passed but I'm not satisfied.

anywaysss thats life, shit..people look like shit. speaking of shit, kanina while walking homeward, thinking how i would make my grades up sa finals... a shit, literally, was hit by my blind foot. tae. "patay, ambaho nito sa fx mamaya." The shit crawled clammily under my shoe. what i did, i jerked my foot, flinging the shit into the air. and I did not care. i did not bother to look where the shit fell anymores and just thought of my greater frustration, my grades..again.
"i gave my best but my best was not good enough."

there are experences talaga na paulit ulit. paulit ulit kasi they just give us the same lesson again and again. kagaya nga nun. alam ko naman na "expecting will just hurt"..pero i still expected.
and the world made me experience it again. bakit nga ba! why do we keep on encountering those experiences na alam naman na natin at same lang din yung ibibigay na lesson sa past lessons that we learned. siguro kasi. alam nga natin yung lesson, pero knowing alone is not enough. dapat siguro isinasabuhay natin. LALIM men.

wait another frustration pa. so saaaad talaga. the ERASERHEADS' REUNION concert is coming very soon. actually sa sabado na siya and i don't have ticket pa. ticket prices are P845 and P1345.. so kung manunuod ako, i have n choice but to go for 845. sa likod. wala pera eee. I'm really tensing with desire. desire to watch it. gradeschooler palang ako solid eheads nako eh. para sakin isa silang alamat. kaya kung mamimiss ko yung once in a lifetime concert na yun. wala na. patayin nalang nila ko.
